WebJan 23, 2009 · The two amplifiers I have never had any balance or hum pots. I have PP Magnavox 6BQ5 amplifier (9300 series) that uses a hum pot. A friend has a SE 6BQ5 Magnavox 196 series that uses a 12AX7,2 6BQ5,a 5U4 rectifier, and a choke in the PS. The OPT's are a little bit larger. That amp has a hum or balance pot. I made it a stand alone amp (of course) and reconfigured the preamp from an RIAA to a anode follower 6N1P; which I rolled to a 6n6p. I changed all of the inter stage caps to Sraugue PIO and the output iron to Hammond 1615 15W.
